Surrey, UK I became interested in the Roberts brand a few years ago while reading an article relating to Queen Elizabeth II. The journalist described the resourcefulness of the very young princess of York, heir to the throne of England who, in 1940 during the Second World War when she was just fourteen, had agreed to intervene during a BBC radio broadcast, the Children's Hour, during which Elizabeth had spoken to children in the UK who, like her, had been evacuated from cities becouse of German bombing. The journalist also mentioned a radio that had been given to Elizabeth by the Queen Mother and with which the princess listened to the news and music. The radio was one of half a dozen Roberts radios which had been purchased by the British royal household, so much so that after the war, since 1955, Harry Roberts obtained permission to apply the "Royal Warrant" to his radios as "Her Majesty's Radio Manufacturer Queen Elizabeth II". Harry Roberts had begun its production of domestic radio in 1932 by producing good quality receivers which immediately had success on the market. The unmistakable style of Roberts portable radios began in 1954, when Harry Roberts was inspired by his wife's handbag design and created the R55. In 1958 Roberts put his first transistor radio on the market, the RT1 which was very popular with the public, a success that continued with the later models R200, R500 etc. The particular briefcase style chosen by Henry Roberts in 1954 with a portable tube radio has continued to enjoy popularity up to the present day as can be seen by observing for example a modern Roberts Revival iStream, a radio that can receive DAB, DAB+, FM and has Bluetooth connectivity and WiFi, and of which thousands of copies have been sold. © IK3HIA, 2023 |

alcuni anni fa mentre leggevo un articolo relativo alla Regina
Elisabetta II d'Inghilterra.
Il giornalista descriveva l'intraprendenza della giovanissima principessa di York, erede al trono d'Inghilterra la quale, nel 1940 durante la II guerra mondiale e appena quattordicenne, aveva acconsentito ad intervenire durante una trasmissione radiofonica della BBC, la Children's Hour, durante la quale Elisabetta aveva parlato ai bambini del Regno Unito che come lei erano stati evacuati dalle città a causa dei bombardamenti tedeschi. Il giornalista inoltre accennava a una radio che era stata regalata ad Elisabetta dalla Regina Madre e con la quale la principessa ascoltava le notizie e musica. La radio era una della mezza dozzina di radio Roberts che erano state acquistate dalla casa reale inglese, tanto che dopo la guerra, dal 1955, Harry Roberts ottenne il permesso di applicare alle sue radio il "Warrant Reale" come Produttore di Radio di Sua Maestà la Regina Elisabetta II. La Harry Roberts aveva iniziato la sua produzione di apparecchi domestici nel 1932 producendo ricevitori di buon livello che ebbero subito un discreto successo di mercato. L'inconfondibile stile delle radio portatili Roberts ebbe inizio nel 1954, quando Harry Roberts fu ispirato dal design di una borsetta di sua moglie e realizzò la R55. Nel 1958 Roberts immise sul mercato la RT1, la sua prima radio a transistor che riscosse grande favore del pubblico, successo che continuò con anche i modelli successivi R200, R500 ecc. Il particolare stile a valigetta scelto da Henry Roberts nel 1954 con una radio portatile a valvole ha continuato a riscuotere popolarità fino ai nostri giorni, come si può constatare osservando ad esempio una odierna Roberts Revival iStream, radio del 2018 che può ricevere in DAB, DAB+, FM e che dispone di connettività Bluetooth e Wi-Fi, e della quale sono stati venduti migliaia di esemplari. © IK3HIA, 2023 |
